It’s Like Christmas Eve!

Tomorrow’s the big day — yes – THE day has finally arrived.  Tomorrow we sign the papers for our house.  I asked Pat (my hubby) how this signing was different from the first time we bought a house 29 years ago and he quickly answered “We’re not quite as clueless or stupid.”  I think it is interesting that he included ‘quite as’  – not very assuring before signing a paper obligating us to payments every month for the next 30 years!

Last time we bought a house I was 7 months pregnant and determined that I didn’t want to raise my child in an apartment.  We had agreed that the house would just be a ‘starter’ home and when we added to our family, we would ‘move up’.  Needless to say, that never happened.  We managed to raise four children in a 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom home which had a total of 1100 square feet.  I didn’t have a problem with this set up because I was raised with 4 younger sisters (so our household had 6 women) – and we had one bathroom!  No big deal to me.  My children learned to adjust – and vowed they would always have two bathrooms!  In fact, when Tim was stationed in Bahrain he called when he rented his off-base apartment – just to brag that not only did he have a maid (came with the apartment) and a beautiful view of the Persian Gulf on two sides – but he had TWO BATHROOMS!  Snotty kid!

So – tomorrow, we will close on our house and start moving.  Pat has made up his mind that we will sleep in the house tomorrow night – and I’m sure we will!  Although we are ‘downsizing’ – the house is actually a little bit bigger (1374 square feet), has a two-car garage and yes – TWO BATHROOMS!

But the best part of our new house isn’t the two car garage.  It isn’t the fact that it is a ranch and I don’t to walk up and down stairs to do laundry.  It isn’t that we don’t have to do the lawn care or the snow shoveling.  It isn’t even that it has TWO BATHROOMS.

No — the best part of our new house — is that it is BRAND-SPANKING NEW and no one has ever lived there before – and Pat and I picked out everything for the inside.  The TWO BATHROOMS are just a bonus!
